Language and concept development requires a motivated family engagement program led by the school. Bilingual students show a positive social-emotional development when parents and teachers create bridges through literature, music and culture. A strong understanding and collaboration between them will benefit the strong foundation needed for initial literacy and effective learning.
Dr. Flor Ada’s & Dr. Campoy’s Bios:
Alma Flor Ada, Ph.D a leading figure in Latino children’s literature, is an award-winning author of over 200 books. A leading mentor and philosopher of bilingual education in the United States, her writing expands from poetry for the very young, to adult novels. Awarded numerous national and international awards.
F. Isabel Campoy, Ph.D is the author of over 100 children’s books. She is a recognized scholar devoted to social justice and to promote diverse books in diverse languages. The recipient of the Ramón Santiago and Tomás Rivera Awards, she is a member of the American Academy of the Spanish Language.
