An interview with Brian Mowry
Brian Mowry has worked in the Austin Independent School District for 23 years. He taught bilingual prekindergarten for nine years, and bilingual kindergarten for two years. He has earned various awards, including Teacher of the Year for two consecutive years and was recently named the Austin Association for the Education of Young Children (AAEYC) Teacher Educator of the Year.
Brian has served as a K-5th grade mathematics support specialist in AISD, writing curriculum and providing teacher in service training. He currently works as an AISD district level early childhood specialist, supporting more than 300 full-day prekindergarten teachers and 450 Kindergarten teachers with curriculum and in-service training. Brian has presented at various national conferences, including NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He received his doctoral in curriculum and instruction (with an emphasis on early childhood education) at the University of Texas at Austin.
He has also authored a national textbook curriculum in mathematics and has presented at several national and state conferences, including NAEYC and NCTM. Brian Mowry is the author of the Frog Street Pre-K Math Program.
